2003 Carolina Ice Palace Adult Hockey Tournament Charleston, SC
May 2 - May 4, 2003

The Lady Thrashers placed second out of six teams at the Carolina Ice Palace Adult Hockey Tournament.
We had the help of Krystyn Elek (a.k.a. Muffy the Magnificent) in net.

Record: 3-1
Game 1 vs Fayetteville Fury: 3-0 W
Game 2 vs Jacksonville Breakers: 8-0 W
Game 3 vs Greensboro Angels: 4-2 W
Championship Game vs NC State Lady Pack: 1-2 L

On-Ice Highlights
  • 11 people playing as a team
  • Laura with 10 points on the tournament
  • Taby's first tourney goal and subsequent hat trick
  • Muffy's highlight-reel saves to preserve two shoutouts, including a head-first sliding save, losing her helmet
  • Kat winning all but 2 faceoffs against Jacksonville
  • Ashley in the corners against Greensboro
  • Captain Ann's show of heart against NC State

    On-Ice Lowlight:
  • Taby's loss of consciousness (and no penalty call) after a shoulder hit to the jaw in the Greensboro game.

    Off-Ice Highlights:
  • The pool game at the Penalty Box bar
  • "Sunrise" on the beach (minus the bird attack)
  • Chrome Toes
  • Playing the Friends trivia game while stuck in the construction traffic jam on the way home.
  • Finding a bunch of "G" hats at a random gas station, so we could all be like Taby.

    Starbucks Visit? Yes (3)

    M.A.S.H. Unit (injuries played through):
  • Alpa - eye
  • Jet - back, thumb
  • Karin - shoulder, elbow, hip (all on the same side)
  • Lori - knee and ankle
  • Taby - concussion
  • Laura - stomach (ok, not really an injury...)

The Tough Guy Award goes to Lori for trying to play through her knee/ankle injury.

    Biggest Lie of the Tournament:
That a seagull attacked Alpa's eye at the beach. In reality, the driver's side window of her own Subaru was the culprit.

Quote of the Tournament: See Alpa for an audio-visual demonstration.

Thanks to Coach Mike's friends, Jason and Captain Amy, who made the trek from Myrtle Beach to cheer us on.
